D. Wayne Lukas Net Worth
D. Wayne Lukas is an extremely successful and rich horse trainer. He’s also the first one who earned more than $100 million in purse money. As of 2015, Lukas’ net worth is about $250 million and growing. In 2014, although already 78 years old, he declined to retire and still poses a serious threat to his younger competitors.
Darrell Wayne was born September 2, 1935 in Antigo, Wisconsin. Horses were his big hobby since early age. He holds master’s degree in education from University of Wisconsin–Madison. His first job was teaching at high school for nine years. He also served there as a head basketball coach.
When he was receiving a 2013 Eclipse Award of Merit, Lukas stated jokingly that such an honor might be given to him in attempt to retire him. Yet, he doesn’t feel old and warned younger trainers that he’s coming after them. And we are sure he didn’t exaggerate.
Lukas achieved many records and won Breeder’s Cup races 20 times. He’s really one of a kind. Some of important wins of his thoroughbreds from last time include Oxbow at Preakness Stakes, Take Charge Brandi at Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, and Hightail at Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint.
