Rihanna’s Tattoos; Hand And Chest Tattoos, Nose Job
All the way from Saint Michael, Barbados, this Good Girl Gone Bad has climbed her way to the top and by the looks of it, has every intention to keep climbing. She was born Robyn Rihanna Fenty on February 20, 1988, but is widely known by her fans and the world as Rihanna.
Her ‘throwing caution to the wind’ aura is what probably attracts us more to Rihanna (Riri for short), but we all know she works hard and obviously plays hard too. Her style and mannerism has had a great influence on the masses, she brought back trends like bangs, pixie cuts, chokers, and many girls have abandoned their bras because Rihanna hardly wears one.
Rihanna’s tattoos have also been copied by fans all over the globe and since she has more than a couple of them, it would not be a bad idea to take a closer look at how they look and what they mean.
Rihanna’s Hand Tattoos
Rihanna has proven to us that she just loves to get inked, she has an array of tattoos all over her body. They are not the regular, sloppy tattoos slapped on and probably misrepresented, she puts some thought and emotion into them. Across her knuckles she has the words ‘Thug Life’ tattooed in pink ink as a tribute to the Late Tupac Shakur. This was done on January 25, 2015 by popular tattoo artist Mark Mahoney.
On July 8, 2011 Riri got the word ‘Love’ tattooed on the middle finger of her left hand in cursive writing. The meaning is not deep and the interpretation is open.
Although she says they are very painful, Rihanna got another tattoo on yet another finger in June 2008. It reads ‘Shhh’ on the index finger of her right hand, so she can actually shush people without having to say the actual words, how clever! A few celebrities including Lindsey Lohan and Lily Allen have copied her finger tattoo.
She must have a high threshold for pain, because at some point, she decided that regular tattoos didn’t do it for her anymore so she got a traditional Maori tattoo on her hand, using a mallet and chisel.
She got the tattoo during her 2008 tour in New Zealand. It is a dragon claw hand tattoo, representing aroha (love) and mana (strength). Although it was incredibly painful, this was not the last traditional Maori tattoo that made it unto Riri’s skin.
In October 2013 she got her second one. The ink was embedded into her skin, thus giving it a bumpy look. Although she said nothing about the meaning of the tattoo, her artist, Inia Taylor, hinted that Rihanna’s tattoo signifies some sort of spiritual cleansing in regard to her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.
Evidently, the Barbadian star was not too happy with her new Maori tattoo, and as a result, a few weeks later she flew her go-to tattoo artist, Bang Bang, out to the Dominican Republic over the weekend to cover it up with a new henna inspired tattoo.
Rihanna’s Chest Tattoos
Rihanna’s tattoos are a clear indication that she may have an addiction, but she still manages to create quite a buzz when she gets a new one.
In 2012, Rihanna got a tattoo of an Egyptian goddess on her chest, actually it was under her mammary glands, but let’s just stick with the word chest. This particular tattoo is a tribute to her late grandmother who passed away in July that year after a lengthy battle with cancer.
When she debuted the tattoo on Instagram she wrote, ‘Goddess Isis – Complete Woman – Model for future generations – #GRANGRANDOLLY – always in and on my heart #1love.’
If we decide to delve deeper into the sum total of Rihanna’s tattoos, it may take a while to describe all of them, but in addition to her hand and chest tattoos Riri has a sweet collection.
There is a music note on her ankle inspired by her music career, a Pisces sign behind her ear signifying her zodiac sign, a misspelled sanskrit prayer on her hip and a star inside her ear. Now do you believe she is fearless?
That is not all though, she also has an Arabic tattoo on her rib-cage which translates to ‘Freedom in God’, she has the popular stars down the back of her neck, a skull on the back of her ankle and Roman numerals on her shoulder which translate to her best friend Melissa Forde’s birthday.
If you were hoping the list was over, sorry to disappoint you, it really makes you wonder if there is any more space on her petite form for all these tattoos. Among Rihanna’s tattoos is a little gun on her side, ‘never a failure, always a lesson’ quoted on her shoulder, ‘rebelle fleur’ translating to ‘rebel flower’ on the back of her neck, a cross on her collarbone, a Tibetan word on her hip, a falcon on her ankle and Queen Nefertiti on her side. That adds up to a whopping 21, but there really is no need to count, because it’s a short countdown to when she will get another one.
Rihanna’s Nose Job
It is not uncommon for celebrities to have a little work done to enhance or completely transform some of their features. Despite her near flawless features, Rihanna was never really pleased with her nose, and as a result she went under the knife and got herself a rhinoplasty.
It has boosted her confidence and given her a more professional and refined look, by enhancing and not altering her features.
