Richie made his solo debut in 1982 with the record Lionel Richie and number 1 hit “Really”. He’s sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him among the top selling music artists ever.
Early life
Lionel Brockman Richie, jr. Was created and raised in Tuskegee, Al, the son of Alberta R. (Foster) and Lionel Brockman Richie. He was raised about the campus of Tuskegee Institute. His grandfather’s home was over the road from the residence of the president of the school. Their household transferred to Joliet, Illinois, where his mom Alberta was primary at Eliza Kelly Elementary school and his father worked through the currently defunct Joliet Arsenal at Armcom.
Richie finished from Joliet Township High School, East Campus. A star tennis player in Joliet, he dropped after his sophomore year out of Tuskegee Institute, and taken a tennis scholarship to go to Tuskegee Institute. Richie seriously contemplated studying divinity to becoming a priest together with the Episcopalian Church, but finally determined he wasn’t “priest material” and chose to continue his musical career. He’s an active life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and a member of Kappa Kappa Psi.

After being married almost 18 years, Richie and Harvey separated on August 9, 1993. Richie wed Diane Alexander on December 21, 1995.
