Josef Newgarden was born on December 22nd, 1990, in Hendersonville, Tennessee. When he was 13, he started with kart racing and three years later, he won the Junior TAG World Championship and gained two titles in the Junior Yamaha championship.
In 2006, Josef began his career in the Skip Barber Racing School series where he achieved several successes. In 2008, he participated in Formula Ford races and a year later ended as a runner up on the British Formula Ford Championship.
In 2009, Josef won two times in the Formula Palmer Audi. Next year, he moved to GP3 Series, joining the Carlin team. In 2011, he joined the Indy Lights series and then, in December, he became an IndyCar driver for Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing. As of 2016 season, Newgarden is a part of the Ed Carpenter Racing and in the best shape in his IndyCar career.
