Carly was born September 6, 1954 in Austin, Texas. She holds Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy and medieval history from Stanford University. Later, she received Master of Science degree in management at the prestigious MIT Sloan School of Management. She worked at Lucent for several years, before going to Hewlett-Packard.
Her job of chief executive officer at HP was more than well paid. She led the controversial merger with Compaq. In 2005, Fiorina was asked by the board of directors to step down. She received a hefty compensation. It was $21 million in cash and other benefits in the form of stock and pension benefits were worth another $19 million.
Fiorina was married to her university sweetheart Todd Bartlem from 1977 to 1984. One year later, Carly married AT&T executive Frank Fiorina. She had two daughters from the first marriage but one of them tragically died. Carly herself was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent double mastectomy followed by the breast reconstruction surgery. Fiorina also authored two books.
