Genie owned The Cherished Home, store in Maine where cottage furnishings and home accessories were sold. She sold the store in 2012 and shortly after that it was closed. Genie was the face for Medifast Diet and appeared in their advertisements, claiming she lost weight using this diet program.
She started dating actor/director Jonathan Frakes in 1985. They met before while filming miniseries Bare Essence, than they met again during the filming of the North and South. Genie married Jonathan in 1988. They have two children, son and daughter. The family lived in Beverly Hills, California, and later moved to upscale neighborhood of Calabasas, California.
