Early life
Riley was created in Menston, West Yorkshire, the child of “a cloth agent and nursery school teacher”. He was taught at Uppingham School, and at Malsis School, Cross Hills. He was turned down by the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art as well as the London Academy of Audio and Dramatic Art.
Career
Film
His breakthrough performance came when he performed the role of Ian Curtis within the film Control, a biopic about the lead singer of the 1970s post-punk band Joy Division.
