Robert Tilton is probably one of the most famous televangelists of all times. At the peak of his fame in 1991, his TV program Success-N-Life was grossing about $80 million each year. Rober was born June 7, 1946 in Dallas, Texas. He started his own ministry in 1974. He built small nondenominational church in a village of Farmers Branch, Texas. Among other beliefs, he preached that all hardship, including poverty, is a result of sin.
He urged his vievewers to send him so called vows, which were money gifts of $1,000 or more. People sending him vows should be rewarded by God with large material wealth, he claimed. After series of controversies, Texas and the federal government became involved in investigations which led to sharp decline of people watching Success-N-Life.
Today, Tilton runs Word of Faith World Outreach Center Church which by estimates is grossing about $24 million per year tax-free. Tilton is also a successful author. He wrote many books, such as How to Be Rich & Have Everything You Ever Wanted, How to Pay Your Bills Supernaturally, and God’s Million-Heirs.
