American hip hop artist Lil Phat is best known for his contribution to the Webbie’s song Independent. Phat was born March 25, 1992 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His birth name was Melvin Vernell III. His career started in 2007 when he was signed to Trill Entertainment at the age of 15. Besides Webbie, he participate on songs with Trill Fam, Foxx, Lil Boosie, Bambino Gold and few others.
Lil Phat was killed outside of a hospital in Sandy Springs on June 7, 2012, where he was waiting for his daughter to be born. He was found dead in his car. In August 2014, three men were convicted of his murder. One of the prosecutors on his murder case was Andi Dorfman.
His music was published under Trill Entertainment and Atlantic Records labels. In 2014, Lil Phat’s girlfriend testified at the trial regarding his death.
