Canadian survival expert, filmmaker and musician Les Stroud is mostly known as the creator (writer, producer, director, cameraman and host in one) of the television series Survivorman. Les Stroud was born on October 20, 1961 in Ontario, Canada. He attended the Music Industry Arts program at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, than he worked for several years at the Toronto music video channel MuchMusic and as a songwriter for the band New Regime.
He decided to change his career direction after a Temagami canoe trip. In 1990, Les started his work as a guide for Black Feather Wilderness Adventures, leading canoe excursions into the Northern Ontario wilds. During this time he met his future wife, photographer Sue Jamison, on a survival course. They married in 1994 and have two children, but separated in late 2008.
Les Stroud has produced survival-themed programs for many channels, such as The Outdoor Life Network, The Discovery Channel, The Science Channel, and YTV. Survivorman is a show, where Stroud is on his own, with minimal equipment, in the wilderness, filming his survival experience.
