Jemele Hill was born on December 21st, 1975, in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from Michigan State University with a college degree in journalism and a minor in Spanish and began her career as general assignment sports writer, working for the Raleigh News & Observer. For six years, Jemele served as a sports writer with the Detroit Free Press, covering especially Michigan State football and basketball and the 2004 Summer Olympics and the NBA Playoffs. She also worked as a columnist for the Orlando Sentinel.
