Eric Lynn Wright became famous under his stage name Eazy-E. He belonged to the biggest hip hop artist back in 1980’s. Recent movie Straight Outta Compton tracks this era. Eazy-E was played by Jason Mitchell in this film. Eazy-E had a total net worth of $8 million before he died in 2005.
Eric was born September 7, 1963 in Compton, California. He had tough childhood and dropped out of high school. After school, he made a lot of money from illegal activities but after his cousin got killed, he decided to focus on hip hop music instead. He became famous as The Godfather of Gangsta rap.
He met music producer Jerry Heller who convinced him to invest into Ruthless Records. His initial investment was allegedly $250,000 and totally Eazy-E invested as much as $1 million. Hence the Godfather nickname. He contributed not only with his music but with a huge chunk of cash.
Eazy-E admitted living a very promiscuous life. He had seven kids with six different women. In 1995, he was diagnosed with AIDS. Just a few days before his death, Eazy-E married his girlfriend Tomica Woods. Couple months after his death, his last album named Str8 off tha Streetz of Muthaphukkin Compton was released.
He remains one of the biggest names in the gangsta rap until today. The movie Straight Outta Compton depicts nicely this interesting era when hip hop was going mainstream. Eazy-E was part of all this and managed to amass incredible net worth in the process.
