David Chang Net Worth
American restaurateur, author, and television personality David Chang is the founder of the Momofuku restaurant group, which includes Momofuku Noodle Bar, Momofuku Ssäm Bar, Má Pêche, Milk Bar and others. In 2009, Momofuku Ko in New York City was awarded 2 Michelin stars and retained them each year since. David is one of America’s Most Successful Chef’s and his net worth is estimated to be over $50 million.
Chang was born on August 5th, 1977 in Vienna, Virginia. As a child, he played golf and participated in a number of junior tournaments. After graduating from college he did a variety of jobs, such as teaching English in Japan, bussing tables and answering phones at restaurant. He opened his first restaurant in 2004 in the East Village and named it Momofuku Noodle Bar. Momofuku means “lucky peach” in English. But it is also likely to be a reference to Momofuku Ando, the inventor of instant noodles.
He published a cookbook, also named Momofuku, in October 2009, with former New York Times writer Peter Meehan. The cookbook contained detailed recipes from Chang’s restaurants. He appeared in the fifth episode of Season One of HBO’s TV show Treme with other great chefs. He has his own Momofuku branches all over the world, included Australia, that is why he is so good in taking care of his net worth. David was also listed on the 2010 list of the Time 100 Most Influential People. He was a guest judge on MasterChef Australia in 2011 and launched a 16 episode series called The Mind of a Chef in 2012.
David Chang is known for his so-called “bad-boy attitude” which includes no reservations and no vegetarian options in his restaurants. Nevertheless, he has been awarded and nominated for many James Beard Foundation Awards and in 2007 was named Bon Appetit’s and GQ’s Chef of the Year.
