Peter Gunz formed a famous hip hop duo with Lord Tariq and their hit Déjà Vu earned a lot of money. However their promising career received heavy hit pretty soon. At the end of it, Peter was in red numbers, late with his rent, and most of his Déjà Vu royalties were gone for good. In 2015, his net worth is estimated to be only somewhere between 50 and 100 thousand dollars. How did this happen?
It turned out that successful Déjà Vu was a sample of song Black Cow from Steely Dan. And the hip hop newbies didn’t secure copyrights before sampling it. Resulting trial ordered them to pay hefty settlement and forever forwarded 90% of royalties from Déjà Vu to Steely Dan. Gunz lost his apartment and he was happy when he could move in to his love Tara Wallace. And Peter Gunz discovered another source of income – VH1 reality TV show Love & Hip Hop.
Although his appearance on Love & Hip Hop didn’t picture him as likable guy, he certainly was happy for the cash flow it provided to him in tough times.
