Joe Mimran is a famous fashion designer, entrepreneur, and investor who joined Canadian reality television show Dragon’s Den in 2015. He amassed an incredible fortune and has plenty of money to invest now. His total net worth is estimated to be about $200 million as of 2015. Majority of it originates from the sale of his company Club Monaco to Ralph Lauren for which he was paid incredible $122 million in 2000.
Joe was born 2 December 1952 in Casablanca, Morocco. His mother was a couturier and Joe was drawn to design since an early age. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the York University. Mimran started his own small art gallery while still at the university. Later, he also received the bachelor’s degree in commerce and CPA at the University of Windsor.
When his brother bought a small factory and started a brand Ms. Originals, Joe joined him. The business was running very well and Mimran brothers hired a famous designer Alfred Sung to help them improve their clothing lines. In 1980’s, Joe started his own company named Club Monaco. He managed to made a popular brand out of it and sold it in 2000 to Ralph Lauren. This single transaction made him incredibly rich.
With his newly acquired stellar net worth, Mimran could easily retire but he has too much of an entrepreneurial spirit for that. He re-opened his old design consulting firm instead, Joseph Mimran & Associates, and started investing into promising start-ups. His appearance on Dragon’s Den is in line with this new passion.
