Rick Genest was born on August 7, 1985, in Quebec, Canada. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor before he had an idea to cover his body with tattoos. During the six months waiting for his surgery, he contemplated his own life and possible death. The surgery went well with minimal complications.
One day, he went for a walk and the thought of living downtown, on rooftops, dumpsters or under bridge, crossed his mind. He developed the new method of transportation – hitchhiking.
