Coming from poor South African family Basetsana Kumalo made her way to the top. She won Miss South Africa in 1994 and ended on a great second place at Miss World. Basetsana was born born 29 March 1974 in Soweto, South Africa into a family of bus driver and a school teacher. To help financially their parents, Basetsana and her siblings were selling home-made sandwiches on local soccer matches during weekends. Growing up might be tough for her but it learned her to be persistent and motivated.
At the age of sixteen, Basetsana already won local contest Miss Soweto. Her mother was convinced that her daughter is destined to success and entered her into Miss South Africa. After series of pageants, Basetsana appeared on several television shows, such as Top Billing. In 2000, she founded her own clothing brand named Stature Ladies wear by Bassie.
Kumalo’s love life is also very interesting reading. Basetsana used to date boxer Dingaan Thobela but they broke up. In 1997, she started dating Romeo Kumalo who is a rich Vodacom executive. They married in 2000. Kumalo gave birth to their two kids and the couple still lives together as of 2015.
